Beyond the Diagnosis: Empowering Your Journey with Gestational Diabetes at Dr. Aayushi Clinic
Navigating gestational diabetes (GDM) in Delhi? Dr. Aayushi Clinic offers personalized GDM management, diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care for a healthy pregnancy and future well-being.
What is Gestational Diabetes?
GDM develops during pregnancy when your body can’t produce enough insulin, leading to high blood sugar. It’s surprisingly common, affecting up to 18% of pregnancies, often appearing mid to late term.
Am I at Risk?
Factors like a BMI of 30+, a history of large babies, previous GDM, family history of diabetes, or certain ethnic backgrounds (South Asian, Chinese, African-Caribbean, Middle Eastern) increase your chances.
How We Check You:
If you have risk factors, we’ll offer early blood tests or an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) between 24-28 weeks. For previous GDM, we might start monitoring even earlier.
Your Health & Baby's Well-being:
Most GDM pregnancies are healthy with proper management. Uncontrolled GDM can lead to a larger baby, increased risk of C-sections, birth complications, or low blood sugar for your baby after birth. Rest assured, managing your blood glucose significantly reduces these risks.
Personalized Care by Dr. Aayushi's Team:
If diagnosed, you’ll receive dedicated care from our specialized team, including Dr. Aayushi Rathore, an expert in diabetes and pregnancy. Your plan will include:
- Tailored Nutrition & Exercise: Your first line of defense.
- Easy Blood Glucose Monitoring: We’ll teach you to track your levels effectively.
- Medication (if needed): Tablets or insulin, prescribed as required.
- Extra Baby Monitoring: Regular ultrasounds to track your baby’s growth.
- Birth Planning: Discussing ideal timing (38-40 weeks), delivery options (vaginal, induction, C-section), and labor management, including hourly blood glucose checks and continuous fetal monitoring.
After Your Baby Arrives:
- Immediate Bonding: Your baby stays with you!
- Breastfeeding Support: Encourage feeding every 2-3 hours for baby’s blood sugar.
- Baby’s Glucose Check: We’ll monitor your baby’s blood glucose.
- GDM Resolution: GDM usually resolves right after birth, and you’ll likely stop medications. We’ll confirm this before you go home.
- Crucial Follow-Up: A fasting blood glucose test or GTT 6-8 weeks postpartum is vital. Don’t miss it!
Your Future Health – A Key Focus:
Women with GDM have a 1 in 3 chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes within 5 years. Dr. Aayushi Rathore will provide lifestyle advice and recommend annual fasting blood glucose tests to keep you healthy.
Planning Future Pregnancies?
Healthy habits (diet, exercise, weight) reduce future GDM risk. Consult Dr. Aayushi Rathore for pre-pregnancy advice, including high-dose folic acid (5mg).
